Private landlords who have just purchased new property should ensure they have a detailed idea about the home they have bought ahead of seeking quotes for building and content insurance.

That is the view of financial search engine Tescocompare.com, which has just released some guidance on ways to relieve the stress of buying a new property.

Intricate details, such as issues to do with the make of locks and the type of alarms fitted in the house or flat, need to be noted before private landlords and other homeowners look to get insurance of this kind.

Debra Williams from Tescocompare.com said: "Moving home is usually a stressful time, no matter whether you are a homeowner or renter. But there are many things you can do to take the stress out of moving and save yourself some money."

Earlier this week, Property Wire reported that the student housing sector is one of the strongest areas of the buy-to-let market at present.
