Various landlord responsibilities have been highlighted by a landlord legal case in Middlesex.

Hounslow property owner Satvir Judge was fined almost £1,000 after Brentford Magistrates Court found him guilty of failing to respond to a request from the local council.

According to regional news reports, the private landlord did not get in touch with Hounslow council following complaints about rubbish, mould and rats in his property on Welling Road South in the town.

Councillor Phil Andrews, lead member for housing and community safety at the local authority, said: "The council works very hard to make landlords aware of their responsibilities to their tenants by sending out information and holding events."

He added that the council will use "every means possible"to ensure it is looking after the needs of tenants in its local area, even if that means landlord legal action.

Landlords should also be aware that, as of April 1st, they must be compliant with the new Gas Safety Register.
