Female private landlords "represent the future of the UK rental market", according to chief operations officer at the Association of Residential Letting Agents (Arla) Ian Potter.

Reflecting on recent research from the National Landlords Association (NLA), he said that women make for very positive landlords.

The study he refers to indicated that 62 per cent of lady landlords are planning to expand their property portfolio over the next 12-month period.

Mr Potter's comments come as Arla revealed it is sponsoring the Young Property Woman Award category at this year's NLA Property Women Awards.

"We are delighted to be associated with the NLA Property Women Awards 2009,"he explained. "Arla members have many female landlords within their client base."

The operations manager added that this event provides "a perfect opportunity"to celebrate women's services to the private rented sector.

Earlier this month, Arla commended the government's decision to crack down on rogue landlords in the UK.
